Introduction |
Over the past five years, the Machine Learning in Geotechnics Dialogue has been organized four times, with each event focusing on different aspects. The first dialogue explored the "application of machine learning in geotechnics" , while the second delved into the "opportunities and challenges in developing and applying ML to geotechnical engineering research and practice". The third dialogue proposed the idea of "ML supremacy projects" , and the fourth discussed "supremacy projects that potentially bring disruptive value to transform geotechnical research and practice" It is obvious that the merit of applying machine learning into real project has been always the hot topics of the recent dialogues. Undoubtedly, sharing of high-quality geotechnical and geological datasets, available in various formats, plays a crucial role in the mentioned transformation. However, this poses significant challenges and complexities in the field of geotechnics, and it further involves the issue of data privacy.
The purpose of the fifth Machine Learning in Geotechnics Dialogue (5MLIGD) is to invite both industry practitioners and researchers to jointly explore challenges on geotechnical/geological data sharing and potential solutions to these challenges.
Topic description |
(1) Challenges and difficulties in geo-data sharing
Challenges and difficulties may include data privacy and security, data ownership and intellectual property, data quality and standardization, legal and regulatory constraints and so on.
(2) Experience and practice in geo-data sharing
Some experience and potential solutions may include data governance, data privacy and security measures, data catalogs and metadata management, data sharing agreements and so on.
